The City of Albany has welcomed the addition of two new Electric Vehicle (EV) fast chargers this week, providing EV drivers with the opportunity to explore Albany with confidence.
As part of the WA EV Network, Synergy has installed two 150kw direct current EV fast chargers adjacent to the Old Gaol on the corner of Festing Street and Residency Road.
The charging stations will allow up to four cars to charge at once while maintaining access to regular, non-EV parking bays for the general public.
Albany currently has 12 charging locations for Electric Vehicles across the municipality from as far east as Cheynes, as central as the Albany Visitor Centre and as far North as Mount Romance.
The addition of the two new EV chargers with a four-car charging capacity takes Albany’s total charging locations to 16 and an all-time high for EV chargers in the region.
Mayor Dennis Wellington said expanding on the City’s EV charging network was a progressive step forward for the region.
“The City supports the State Government’s EV Strategy and is thrilled to provide a suitable location for these two new chargers with the aim to help in achieving the strategic goals,” he said.
“Being a sustainable City is a key focus for the City of Albany as we work towards reducing our carbon footprint and becoming a City powered by renewable energy.
“Aiding the development of more environmentally conscious infrastructure is top of mind so we can achieve this goal and lessen the impact we have on our environment into the future.”
The two new chargers can accept payment via credit card, an RFID card, or the associated app.
