Campfires in the City of Albany
Campfires are an Australian way of life, but it is important to know the rules about when you can and cannot light a campfire or fire pit.
Campfires, fire pits and open fires are not permitted on land owned or managed by the City of Albany, including:
- Parks
- Reserves
- Bushland reserves
- Coastal reserves
- Recreation areas
- Road reserves
- Other public open spaces
The only exception is within designated campfire facilities provided at the Cape Riche Campground, where campfires may be permitted subject to seasonal restrictions, fire danger conditions and any directions issued by authorised officers.
Unauthorised campfires on City-managed land may result in enforcement action and will require immediate extinguishment.

Penalties
Breaches of a total Fire Ban, lighting fires unlawfully, or allowing a fire to escape may result in:
- Infringement notices
- Significant fines
- Recovery of suppression costs
- Prosecution under the Bush Fires Act 1954 (WA)
Penalties for serious offences can include fines of up to tens of thousands of dollars and/or imprisonment.
