The City of Albany is inviting the community to experience the rich cultural stories of Menang Country through Wangee Boodja - First Nations works in the City of Albany Art Collection at the Town Hall.
Presented as part of the Albany 2026 exhibition program, Wangee Boodja, meaning 'talking Country' or 'connection to Country', brings together a significant selection of First Nations artworks from the City of Albany Art Collection, celebrating the enduring relationship between culture and Country.
The exhibition features works acquired over many years through commissions, acquisitions and early donations, including pieces from the Claude Hotchin bequest.
While not a comprehensive representation of the City's collection, it offers a rare opportunity to view these important works together, many of them created by local Menang Noongar artists.
Predominantly inspired by Boodja (Country), the artworks capture the landscapes, waterways and natural environment of the Great Southern while reflecting personal stories and cultural knowledge.
Together, they showcase the diversity of First Nations artistic expression and the many ways artists interpret and celebrate Country.
This selection offers a rare opportunity to view these important works together, many of them created by local Menang Noongar artists.
Manager Arts and Culture Paul Nielsen said the exhibition highlights the importance of preserving and sharing First Nations stories through the City's art collection.
"Wangee Boodja brings together works that reflect a deep and enduring connection to Country while showcasing the richness and diversity of First Nations artistic expression," Mr Nielsen said.
"The City is proud to care for these significant works, and this exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity for the community to experience them together and gain a deeper appreciation of the stories, knowledge and cultural perspectives they represent.”
Wangee Boodja – First Nations works in the City of Albany Art Collection is a free exhibition open daily at the Albany Town Hall until 29 August 2026.
